Why spend hundreds of dollars on a custom headboard? If your budget is less than large, this vintage inspired, red floral faux headboard is a perfect option! All supplies listed here can be purchased for less than one hundred dollars, and the final look is very chic.

For this project, you will need:

- Two 2 1/4" x 10' x 5/8" pieces of primed wood composite 356 casing moulding (found at your local home improvement store)

- Krylon Interior - Exterior paint in Tomato

- Several sheets of Jenny Bowlin "Vintage Red Floral" print paper (available in stores or online at Paper Addict)

- Mod Podge

- Small bowl of water

- Cardboard

- Hot glue gun and glue sticks

- Spray adhesive

- Acrylic finishing spray

- Saw

- Hammer

- Several small finishing nails

- Small paintbrush

- Tape measure

- Masking tape

- Newspaper or plastic

It is recommended that you start by removing all existing furniture and personal items from your workspace before beginning this project. If there is anything that you absolutely cannot remove, or if you have carpeted flooring, cover this well with plastic or newspaper to protect it.

Measure the size of your bed. You want your headboard to one half inch smaller than the width of your bed on each side. (This will help make the appearance that this is a real custom headboard, not just a faux variety.) Mark this width directly on your wall with a pencil.

Cut the moulding into four even size pieces, with each end cut at a "picture frame" angle. Arrange them on the wall so that a "frame" staying within your marked guidelines is aligned. (This means that the outside of the moulding should not touch any space wider than your marked area.) Spray each of the pieces with three to four coats of Krylon Interior - Exterior paint in Tomato color. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before continuing.

With small finishing nails and a hammer, attach each of the four pieces of molding together so that they form a "frame" shape. Cut a piece of cardboard large enough to be the backing for the frame. Apply a bit of spray paint directly onto a small paintbrush and paint each of the nails to match the moulding

Apply a liberal amount of Mod Podge directly onto the cardboard. Place each piece of paper into the shallow pan filled with water and leave just long enough that the edges stop curling. Place the paper directly onto the cardboard and apply more Mod Podge. Smooth out the paper with your fingers. Repeat until your piece of cardboard is fully covered in paper. Allow the glue to dry before coating the cardboard with acrylic finishing spray.

Adhere the cardboard directly to the wall with a hot glue gun. When the glue has dried, repeat the process with the moulding frame over the top of the cardboard. Reassemble the bed and push directly under the faux headboard.

Voila! Your vintage red floral faux headboard is now complete!
